The Boodaville Festival 2018 is a weekend escape for 3 awe-inspiring days dancing, playing, singing, learning, laughing and celebrating the achievements so far of the Boodaville Project. Surrounded by rolling pine forest, and idyllic olive groves the festival, now in its 9th year, invites you to jump into rivers, engage in thought-provoking workshops, relax with a cocktail under the sun, and be inspired by permaculture design.

The festival site is between the village of Caseres in Catalunya and the town of Calaceite in Aragon. It is a series of olive terraces, with new eco-builds and a bell tent, as well as traditional dwellings. The forested Vall Rovira gives impressive natural acoustics and the perfect backdrop to dance under the stars!

The 2018 weekend kicks off on Friday with Permaculture Site Tours when you arrive followed by live music and a delicious dinner under the stars. Bands this year include Kid Hyena, who haven’t been back to Boodaville since 2011 (when they were Three Colours Red) and we are very excited to invite the insanely talented vocalist Ella and as many of her 7 piece band that can come. The festival is open to adventurous families with children and the programmed music will stop at 1am on Friday and 3am on Saturday. Early birds can catch the stunning sunrises from up on Badger rock then stretch a muscle or neuron or two in one of the morning workshops. Workshops this year include : Applied permaculture (Alessandro Ardovini and Oriol Ferrando), a collective work project supporting Boodaville, Neuro-linguistic programming (Vanessa Lama), Acroyoga, sketching, plus singing on the roof and more. We will have fun and games at the river on Saturday afternoon and then a host of DJs to keep us dancing on Saturday night in the geodesic dome party space.  The festival officially finishes after our Sunday brunch feast which this year will be provided by Dave and his amazing barbecue truck.

Guests to the festival (who do not have Camping+ tickets) are asked to bring their own camping gear, including a torch. The site is completely off-grid meaning no light pollution and the limited electricity we have – hopefully generated by pedal power from you the guests! – is for festival installations only. Delicious meals, beer, wine and soft drinks are provided on site at very reasonable prices from the kitchen and bar and because of the NO FIRE law in the valley, cooking stoves are not recommended. Smokers are asked to dispose of cigarettes VERY CAREFULLY in the ash trays provided.

The Boodaville Project is aiming in the long term to be a truly sustainable living space and education centre applying permaculture design. We expect festival guests to share our values of using resources responsibly and protecting the site environment. For this reason you are encouraged to use water extremely carefully, and be open-minded and respectful of the water saving techniques we have in place. We have a “leave no trace” policy for the festival, and everyone on site is jointly responsible for keeping it clean during and after the event. Rubbish points have different bins for recycling, please familiarise yourself with the different colours used when you arrive. We hope to take all the rubbish bags direct to be recycled after the event so please separate carefully!

The festival is a non-profit event and all proceeds from the tickets and bar go towards funding the installations, and covering expenses for artists, workshop leaders, volunteers and organisers. Any income after costs, and all donations, go to the Boodaville Association. We are completely transparent about the finances of the project and you can see the accounts from the last year here in the Annual Report. We also encourage the use of alternative currencies and exchange. If anyone would like to offer their ticket payment in this way, please get in touch.

about Calaceite

Recently nominated one of the most beautiful towns in Spain, Calaceite has a traditional, perfectly preserved “casco antiguo” with sandstone archways, cobbled alleyways and impressive church.

local services in Calaceite: the petrol station is open till 3pm sundays and 11pm other days. La Cantonada (opposite the bus stop) is always open for sandwiches and cañas. The touristy shop on the main road (near the turn off to Valderrobres) is almost always open and sells overpriced food and local specialities. There are several grocery/souvenir shops and a supermarket, but most shops are closed Sat pm and Sunday, and all of them close for lunch from 2 till 5.
